The first scene we see from New York in the movie is the view from LaGuardia airport. A huge panoramic shot that displays the famous Empire State Building, along with all the skyscrapers piercing the sky. Whoever is not familiar with the adventures of the McCallister family during the 90’s was either not born yet or just skipped through a decade of Christmases without watching one of the most emblematic Christmas-themed comedies. Kevin hasn’t been forgotten but instead, accidentally boards a plane to New York instead of his familys destination, Florida. GettyKevin is reunited with his mom in a sweet and sentimental scene at the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.
In this brief scene, we see Kevin leaving from Quong Yuen Shing with firecrackers—which are sure to go off before the film’s conclusion. After once again being confronted by Harry and Marv, Kevin is chased through Central Park and we’re introduced to another one of Home Alone 2’s locations—the Bethesda fountain. You’ll feel like you’re in a movie yourself when skating at this famous rink.

On September 15, 2020, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment released Home Alone on Ultra HD Blu-ray in time for its 30th anniversary in the United States. Hughes had asked Patrick Read Johnson to direct, but he was committed to directing Spaced Invaders. He turned to Chris Columbus, who had left National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation before shooting started because of a personality clash with starring actor Chevy Chase, who Columbus said treated him "like dirt".
The Palm Court will also be offering Holiday Tea options from November 25 to January 9. See the website for details, which are "coming soon," the hotel says. Located at the heart of the Bethesda Terrace, the fountain is topped by the Angel of the Waters sculpture, which is the only artwork in the park's collection that was commissioned by the designers and administrators of Central Park. Here, we look at the real-life New York City landmarks in Home Alone 2 you can visit to fall in love with the city all over again this Christmas.
New York City
Hannah-Rose Yee of Stylist called the ending "very sweet" and praised the score from John Williams, calling it "fantastic". Christopher Hooton of The Independent also praised the film, calling the film-within-a-film Angels with Filthy Souls "a fond footnote in cinema history". Matt Talbot from Simcoe.com said that the Wet Bandits were "fantastic" and "never old" on "repeat viewings".
But fear not, Kevin defends his territory with a series of tricks, traps, and his totally '90s know-it-all attitude that turned the then-child actor into an overnight sensation. A regular fixture in New York-set movies, the Plaza is heavily featured in the original 1981 Arthur, as well as Hitchcock’s classic North By Northwest. The address given in the movie is 51 West 95th Street, which indeed is a real brownstone, and it actually does look a bit like the location in the film. However, it's certainly not exact, owing to the fact that the house isn't actually in New York. One of the most iconic images of the movie is the zoom-out shot of Kevin standing on top of the south World Trade Center. But even before that, viewers see Kevin walking up some stairs into the complex itself with the two iconic buildings proudly standing in the background.

In the bag of stolen money, he leaves Polaroids of the guys at the toy store as well as the tape recording of Marv explaining the plan. The money is delivered to the hospital as intended, and Mr. Duncan finds out Kevin was responsible. Kevin's uncle Rob and aunt Georgette have a townhouse on 95th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. He finds the address in his dad's contacts, which were in the backpack, but after seeking refuge there earlier, realizes that no one is home and the house is undergoing a gut renovation. This brownstone is where Kevin leads Harry and Marv the night of the toy store robbery in order to test the limits of physical comedy for a PG movie by enacting all kinds of bodily harm upon the hapless villains.
Columbus was later able to get in touch with Steven Spielberg, who helped him contact John Williams to produce the final score. Traditional Christmas songs, such as "O Holy Night" and "Carol of the Bells", are featured prominently in the film, as well as the film's theme song "Somewhere in My Memory". The soundtrack was released by Sony Classical Records on cassette on December 4, 1990, and on CD on May 27, 2015. The film's stunts also created tension for the crew during shooting.

Hughes finished writing the film by February 1991, after signing a six-picture deal with 20th Century Fox. Culkin's return was confirmed in May, and the rest of the cast was finalized soon after. Principal photography took place between December 1991 and May 1992, and was done on location in Illinois and New York, including at the Rockefeller Center and the original World Trade Center. Plus, it has so many memorable moments, from Kevin's stay at The Plaza hotel to his exploration of Duncan's Toy Chest , and more. Lost in New York also has an ample supply of both loveable and screwball supporting characters, like the Central Park pigeon lady that Kevin befriends and Tim Curry's vengeful hotel concierge. Thankfully, the story focuses on a new family and a new house, so at least it doesn't drag Kevin McCallister into this, or feel as desperate as Home Alone 4.
GettyThe Plaza is one of the most iconic, beloved luxury hotels in Manhattan. Kevin chooses to stay here because he heard a commercial for the hotel that called it “New York's most exciting hotel experience"! That could very well be true. Here’s what you need to know to plan your own New York City adventure and visit the key locales from the beloved modern classic Christmas movie. Although the second Home Alone movie required suspension of disbelief, it was a big hit and became the third-biggest grossing movie of 1992. The Big Apple is a major part of the movie to the point where it really became a character itself, and Kevin McCallister’s pure enjoyment of the city is infectious. Or head to The View, New York's only revolving rooftop restaurant located at the New York Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square, to take in 360 vistas of the city while wining and dining.
Home Alone 3 doesn't focus on tech-centric traps, but instead, chooses to recycle the same ol' lineup of people getting hit with falling objects, crashing through loose floorboards, and stepping on mouse traps. Another notable change is a surprising lack of violence in this installment . Adding to the disaster is the bland and lifeless story where Kevin is now staying in the ritzy mansion of his dad's new girlfriend. And, surprise, surprise, a heist is soon underway — and Kevin is the only one who can stop it. The most tragic part of this entire film is that the new bandit duo is played by two very capable and funny actors, French Stewart and Missi Pyle. Sadly, a dead script and a lifeless new child actor suck away all the potential Pyle and Stewart could have brought to the film.
After he took the assistant director by the collar one day to complain about this, daily call times were moved back from 7 to 9 a.m. On the other end of the schedule, the crew had limited time to film the many nighttime scenes, since Culkin could not work any later than 10 p.m. Home Alone 2 opened with $31.1 million from 2,222 theaters, averaging $14,008 per site. It broke the short-lived record set one week earlier by Bram Stoker's Dracula for having the largest November opening weekend. The film went on to hold this record until 1994 when it was taken by Interview with the Vampire.
Earlier, upon landing in Miami, the McCallister family discover that Kevin is missing and file a police report. After the police trace Peter's credit card, the family flies immediately to New York. Meanwhile, Kevin goes to his uncle's townhouse, only to find it vacant and undergoing renovations. In Central Park, Kevin encounters and eventually befriends the pigeon lady. They go to Carnegie Hall, where she explains how her life collapsed when her lover left her; Kevin encourages her to trust people again. Similar to a few other Home Alone 2 film locations, Duncan’s Toy Chest is a fictional place.

Kevin is coming from the park, headed to his accommodation for the night. The statue at Grand Army Plaza points the way across the street to the hotel. Crossing the busy intersection here, at 59th Street, is where Marv and Harry first bump into Kevin. At the airport, Kevin looks out at Long Island City's Pepsi-Cola sign and the East River skyline, and the screen flashes to and from various cityscape shots. We get a sense of the enormity of the place and the tiny-ness of this child.

In reality, the Duncan's Toy Chest scenes were shot at 209 South LaSalle Street in Chicago, Illinois.
Culkin plays Kevin McCallister, a boy who defends his suburban Chicago home from burglars after his family accidentally leaves him behind on their Christmas vacation to Paris. Yes,there are even more pigeons in NYC IRL than you see in the movie. The scene where Marv and Harry are being attacked by them is, quite frankly, any sane New Yorker's worst nightmare. In the beginning of the novelization, a prologue, which ends up being Marv's nightmare in prison, he and Harry sneak away from the cops and return to Kevin's house to seek revenge on Kevin. Harry and Marv end up triggering extra traps that Kevin had set up in the garage. Kevin watches as Marv ends up triggering a trap where a running lawnmower falls on his head .
