Kate is overheard by Gus Polinski, the lead member of a traveling polka band, who offers to let her travel with them to Chicago in a moving van. The McCallister family is preparing to spend Christmas in Paris, gathering at Peter and Kate's home in a Chicago suburb on the night before their departure. Peter and Kate's youngest son, Kevin, is the subject of ridicule by his older siblings and cousins. Kevin inadvertently ruins the family dinner after a brief scuffle against his oldest brother Buzz, resulting in Kate sending him up to the attic.

One of my favourite winter activities in New York is ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza with the tree lighting the way. They have a skate rental booth beside the rink so even tourists can participate. The Radio City Music hall is a beautiful art deco building, built in the early 1930s. You get to go backstage and see the whole venue for a lot cheaper than the cost of a concert ticket. They are giant swanky powder rooms that will make you feel like an old Hollywood star. What is often remembered most from this movie is a cameo of a former US president.

After some talking, they decide to go somewhere warm and break into Carnegie Hall, where they are treated to a beautiful concert from the dusty and cluttered attic. Carnegie Hall is a world-renowned venue for classical music and used to house the New York Philharmonic before they moved to Lincoln Center's Philharmonic Hall in 1962. Located in The Bronx, the Fulton Fish Market was originally positioned near the Brooklyn Bridge, but it permanently moved locations in 2005.
In Polish, the movie is called Kevin sam w domu (meaning "Kevin home alone"). In Poland the film "Home Alone" became a phenomenon and part of the Christmas tradition. Julio Macat, the films cinematographer, considers Home Alone his favorite film out of all the projects he has shot. Naomi Barnwell of Roobla said that "Home Alone has all the ingredients that make for a great kids’ film". By the time the film had run its course in theaters, Home Alone was the third-highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, as well as in the United States and Canada behind only Star Wars ($322 million at the time) and E.T.

Speaking of Central Park, Kevin spends a good chunk of the movie within its boundaries. Easily one of the most beloved landmarks of the city, Central Park is perhaps the most famous park in the entire world. New York's greatest Christmas showcase is the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The first fifty-foot-tall Christmas tree was erected in 1933, and the accompanying skating rink was introduced in 1936.
At the Plaza, the concierge confronts Kevin about the stolen credit card. Kevin escapes via the service exit, only to be met by the Wet Bandits. Marv boasts about the plan to rob Duncan's toy store and kill him, but Kevin escapes after an encounter with a passerby. Upon its release, the movie was initially met with mixed reviews, but after raking in almost $286 million at the domestic box office alone, it quickly cemented itself as a Christmas classic, and a sequel was put into production.

Even to this day, the Fulton Fish Market brings in up to $1 billion on an annual basis. When Kevin ended up in New York City in Home Alone 2, he managed to see all the most iconic tourist attractions in the city. This commercial intersection starts at West 42nd Street and ends at West 47th Street and in between is arguably the busiest area in the entire city.
Decades later, the Home Alone house on Lincoln Avenue in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, has become a tourist attraction. In 2017, about four million people (11.6% of Poland's population) were watching it on Christmas Eve and in 2018 again in Christmas Eve the film recorded the highest viewership with 4.51 million viewers. 3615 code Père Noël director René Manzor threatened the producers of Home Alone with legal action on the grounds of plagiarism, alleging that Home Alone was a remake of his film. 3615 code Père Noël was not released in the United States during its original theatrical run in January 1990 and did not become widely available there until 2018. At the 12th Youth in Film Awards, Macaulay Culkin won Best Young Actor Starring in a Motion Picture. Home Alone grossed $285.8 million in the United States and Canada and $190.9 million in other countries for a worldwide total of $476.7 million, against a production budget of $18 million.
On Christmas morning, a truckload of free gifts arrives at the McCallisters' hotel room, sent from a grateful Mr. Duncan for foiling the robbery. Kevin reconciles with his family, and goes to Central Park to give the pigeon lady the second turtledove, cementing their friendship. To save their home, they try to get the doll back by breaking into the kid's house after they think his entire family has left on vacation. Naturally, Max was accidentally left behind and Home Alone madness begins. What's interesting though is that audiences finally get to view the experience through the eyes of the "bad guys"… and what we see is that they aren't actually bad, they're just desperate and want what is rightfully theirs. Surprisingly, the movie stays true to the scrappiness of the series despite the technological advancements that happened throughout the '90s.
It made two more appearances in the top ten (the weekend of May 31 – June 2 and the weekend of June 14–16) before finally falling out of the top ten. After over nine months into its run, the film had earned 16x its debut weekend and ended up making a final gross of $285,761,243, the top-grossing film of its year in North America. The film is listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-grossing live-action comedy ever and held the record until it was overtaken by The Hangover Part II in 2011. On the set, Pesci and Stern both had difficulty refraining from cursing, which became annoying to Pesci, since Culkin was on set as well. Pesci's use of "cartoon cursing", or menacing gibberish, garnered comparisons to Looney Tunes character Yosemite Sam. Home Alone was initially set to be financed and distributed by Warner Bros.
The family arrives in New York, and Kate, remembering Kevin's fondness for Christmas trees, finds him making a wish at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The Home Alone script was written by iconic '80s filmmaker John Hughes, who set most of his movies in Chicago and its North Shore suburbs. Who hasn’t seen a picture of this location during the night with all the billboards and commercials shining brighter than a thousand suns? It is one of the world’s most visited tourist places with around 50 million visitors per year and 300 to 400 thousand people per day, passing by one the busiest intersections in the world.
However, he leans out the window of the taxi and gazes at the bridge in wonder, as it serves as his gorgeous entry into the city proper. Spanning the width of the East River, the Queensboro Bridge connects Queens and Manhattan - specifically the Upper East Side. Completed in 1909, the Queensboro Bridge is one of four iconic New York bridges - the others being Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.
The 1992 Home Alone sequel sees Kevin end up on a flight to New York City instead of Florida, where the McAllister family are spending their Christmas. Soon after arriving in New York City, Kevin visits the old Quong Yuen Shing & Co. While there, he purchases the fireworks that he would later use to signal the police. Located in Chinatown, Quong Yuen Shing & Co. originally opened in the late 19th century and sold various traditional goods like herbs and silks. Unfortunately, the store faced some financial difficulties following 9/11 and was forced to close. Located within Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall was made a New York City Landmark in 1978 and has been spotted in dozens of movies and TV shows throughout the years.
Those well-versed in historic buildings may recognize this as the Rookery Building, a historic landmark in Chicago. That said, the hotel underwent significant renovations in 2005 (at a cost of $450 million) before reopening in 2008. The building now contains various condos and the lobby looks a little different than it did back in 1992. Luckily, the exterior was preserved and remains just as it looks in the movie.

A bond forms between the two and we find out who the lady really is. They then visit another highlight among Home Alone 2’s NYC locations—Carnegie Hall. Another Home Alone 2 film location in Central Park is right next to the Gastpow Bridge over The Pond where he embraces The Pigeon Lady at the end of the movie when he says goodbye to his NYC friend. In another scene in Central Park, The Pigeon Lady saves Kevin from the bandits right outside the Inscope Arch too. After running into Harry and Marv outside the toy store, Kevin seeks refuge at the Plaza only to be confronted about using a stolen credit card—resulting in him having to leave. As most people know, the former World Trade Center featured in the film, unlike many Home Alone New York locations is no longer there, this was filmed 9 years before the horrific events of September 11th.
