The film was released in the United Kingdom on December 11, 1992, and topped the country's box office that weekend. The film is the third-highest-grossing film released in 1992 behind The Bodyguard and Aladdin. In the United States and Canada, it grossed more than The Bodyguard and ranked second.

Kevin’s treehouse was also specifically built for the film and ended up being taken down after filming wrapped. For movie fans, the brick suburban residence featured in the 1990 movie Home Alone is almost as familiar as Macaulay Culkin's adorable mug from the beloved holiday flick. Cinematographer Julio Macat recalled that Pesci was more difficult to work with than Culkin. The older actor believed some of the dialogue was not of a quality commensurate with his acting ability. He also resented the early unit calls, since they prevented him from starting his day with nine holes of golf as he preferred to do.

Despite the movie being mostly recycled antics from the original film, pulling them out of suburbia and plopping them in the luxurious and expansive Big Apple makes it feel fresh and new. This installment marks when the Home Alone series begins its derailment. After the massive success of the first two movies, a third movie was inevitable.
This is the most heartwarming location of the movie since Kevin wants to help children who are sick and having a difficult time have a happier holiday. Still early in the story, Kevin goes to The Plaza Hotel which is situated at number 750, 5th avenue and Central Park South, Manhattan. It was opened on October 1st, 1907 and is famous for providing residence to presidents, ambassadors, movie stars, musicians and many others.
Where is the Home Alone house and what's the address?
On December 19, 2018, Culkin would once again reprise his role as an adult Kevin McCallister in a 60-second advertisement for Google Assistant, titled Home Alone Again. The commercial contains shot for shot remakes of scenes from the film. Google Assistant helps Kevin set up the house to look active by remotely turning on lights, devices, and setting up cutouts of people, to have the thieves parked in a van outside steer clear of the house. Additionally, Joe Pesci also reprised his role as Harry, only for his voice making a small cameo. Pesci later appeared in another ad where he watches the short with his friends and jokes about his brief cameo.

“Almost Famous” and “The Great Gatsby” are just some of the movie titles that feature the legendary hotel in their respective sets. A fun fact – in the movie “Home Alone 2” when Kevin enters the hotel, he is guided to the lobby by current US president and one time owner of the hotel, Donald Trump. GettyCarnegie Hall is among the most famous concert halls in the world, and it’s a gorgeous concert hall to visit when you are in the city.
Home Alone 2: 10 Iconic New York City Landmarks Visited In The Movie
Principal photography took place from December 9, 1991 to May 1, 1992, over a course of 144 days; the film was shot in Winnetka, Illinois; O'Hare International Airport in Chicago; Evanston, Illinois; and New York City. In 2021, Culkin endorsed a petition to edit out Trump's cameo, when he replied to a tweet asking to digitally replace Trump with an older rendition of Culkin. On Christmas Eve, Kevin visits a toy store where he meets its philanthropic owner, Mr. Duncan. Kevin donates cash after learning that the proceeds from the store's Christmas sales will be donated to a children's hospital. As a token of appreciation, Mr. Duncan offers Kevin a pair of ceramic turtledoves as a gift, instructing him to give one to another person as a gesture of eternal friendship.
Kevin is a tourist in the city , and like all tourists, he visits many of the city's most iconic landmarks. After finally arriving to New York, Kevin’s mom Kate (Played by Catherine O’Hara) goes on a desperate search for her son and catches a cab to Times Square. While it’s one of Home Alone 2’s briefest use of NYC locations, the setting is still a memorable one. Existing within Rockefeller Center in Midtown , this juggernaut of Home Alone New York locations has housed performances of many musicians and comedians alike. Kevin springs by the Van Cleef and Arpels store on Fifth Avenue, and hurriedly stops to buy a few necklaces off a street vendor. The center of the Home Alone films, Kevin McCallister, was played by actor Macaulay Culkin.
A brief shot of the square can be seen right before Kate wanders the streets asking for Kevin, and it looks like Times Square in the early '90s. However, this building is not a hospital, but a part of Columbia's Teachers College. It's located at West 120th Street out in Harlem, which is about 75 blocks from Carnegie Hall. The Plaza Hotel plays a major role in the movie, as it's where Kevin decides to stay and rack up an enormous room service tab.

The exterior of the house was filmed on what's called Brownstone Street at Universal Studios. Fans of Home Alone can visit Brownstone Street in the Universal Lots, and it still looks the same. Just like Home Alone fans love Kevin's best schemes, it's fun and charming to watch him explore NYC.
According to Insider, there has been a renovation of Terminal B, which will change the appearance of the airport as well. In a clip that is now extremely sad given what happened only nine years later, Kevin is seen visiting the World Trade Center. He also goes to shops like Quong Yuen Shing & Co. that have since closed. However, for the most part, you can still visit many of the places that are featured in the film.
The tacky wallpaper in the master suite has been replaced with a chic grey & white striped print. Additionally, the once hardwood floors are now decked out in white carpeting. The dining room, which featured red walls in the film, is now adorned in a warm cream color painted with vines and pear trees. Quite the improvement overall…unless you’re a diehard lover of 90s interior design. As the film became popular, people started to park nearby and snap pictures.
This is a famous and beloved part of NYC and is still standing today, with many tourists and residents alike attending performances here. Right now, people can attend the show called "Christmas Spectacular Starring The Radio City Rockettes." Later on we see Kevin hiding in the attic at Carnegie Hall along with another character he meets throughout the movie . Carnegie Hall is a concert venue situated in the centre of Manhattan.

Battery Park is a place on the south side of New York that gives a clear view to the Statue of Liberty. “Men in Black”, “Wall Street”, “She’s The One” and many other movies include a scene in this location. The World Trade Centre, Radio City Hall and South Street in Manhattan can be seen briefly in the movie. In an attempt to prevent Marv and Rob from robbing the toy store, Kevin lures the two criminals to one of Home Alone 2’s final filming locations—his Uncle’s brownstone.
In the newspaper, he finds an ad for “Duncan’s Toy Chest” and the two hatch a plan to rob the store on Christmas Eve. This is also where Marv snatches a scarf and earmuffs off fellow skaters. At the Miami airport, security tells Kevin's parents it's unlikely he'll be anywhere but still stuck in Chicago. The camera pans to the South Street Seaport's erstwhile Fulton Fish Market . A backpack-toting Kevin crosses the street; meanwhile a white truck makes a turn, honks at him, and rolls up the back to reveal Harry and Marv. They're recently out of prison and stowing away with a shipment of seafood on ice.
Troy Brown and Leon Delaney were stuntmen for Pesci and Stern, respectively. An injury had occurred between Pesci and Culkin during one of the rehearsals for the scene in which Harry tries to bite off Kevin's finger. Pesci said in the People interview, "I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry's hat is set on fire." John Candy was available for only one day to film his scenes, which took 23 hours to shoot.
